How the math works
The simulator uses the same verified pricing data that powers every other calculator on this site (data/pricing/*.json, verified 2026-05-27). For each candidate model, it computes per-request cost given your input/output tokens and applies the batch discount and prompt caching where the model supports them — if a model doesn't support batch, it shows you the standard-pricing cost for that model rather than pretending the discount applies.
Annual cost = per-request × requests/month × 12. Savings = current annual − alternative annual. Negative savings (i.e. the alternative is more expensive) are shown honestly, not hidden.
The detailed report adds migration risk notes — SDK changes, prompt-convention differences, context window limits — for each of your top three recommendations, so you know what engineering work the switch would actually require, not just the price delta.
